Isn’t it Time for Reform in our Government?
Posted by: Ron Heuer, December 29, 2009
Are we really being represented in Washington? By that, I mean, are our elected Wisconsin Senators and Congressmen really representing Wisconsinites interests or are they simply voting along party lines, be they Democrats or Republicans?
What our country needs are elected representatives who are committed to “serving” their constituency. After all, they are “public servants” as defined — someone who holds a government position (either by election or appointment). What we really have are elected officials who are in a class unto themselves and who treat themselves very differently than they treat (as indicated by their voting) their own constituency. Day One: How Obamacare Will Alienate Americans
Posted by Dick Morris, December 23, 2009
Editor’s Note: - This column was written with Eileen McGann.
Obama’s health care bill, the poisoned Kool-Aid making its way through the Senate, will not confer any of its supposed benefits on Americans until 2013. But they will find themselves chafing at its restrictions and paying its taxes immediately after the law takes effect. Then, they will see no gain, but plenty of pain, for the next three years. When All Else Fails, Accuse Opponents of Being Racists
Posted by Bobby Eberle, December 26, 2009
The goals of Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and others on the far left are so far out of the mainstream, it is impossible for them to win an argument based on the facts. There is no economic, military, or social situation that can be solved with a radical move toward socialism. I’m sure they know this and push their agenda anyway. The alternative is that they are all just stupid. Read the rest of this entry »

Drunk Driving and Asian Carp
Hello everyone out there in the First Assembly District! Before we get into today’s topics, I just want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. With no legislative activity scheduled until January, this is likely my last column for 2009. So for this last 2009 edition of Notes from the West Wing, I want to talk about legislative activity this week on Drunken Driving and Asian Carp. Read the rest of this entry »
Welcome to the Democratic Party’s Civil War

Seems like only yesterday the Washington establishment had proclaimed the death of the GOP. Pundits churned out public autopsy reports faster than the L.A. County Medical Examiner. Liberals gloated over the supposedly irreparable fissures between right-wing populists and Beltway Republican elites. Conservatism, we were told, was suffering brain death and heart failure. My, how quickly things — ahem — change.
Social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, the GOP leadership, Sarah Palin’s heartland supporters, conservative think-tank intellectuals, D.C. and Manhattan conservatives, Big Business and small-business conservatives, Joe the Plumber conservatives, and every stripe and flavor of conservative in between are all united against the Democrats’ proposed government takeover of health care. All. Read the rest of this entry »
A Time Of Universal Deceit
Posted by Star Parker, December 14, 2009
Americans, not surprisingly, are feeling cynical.
Gallup’s just released Honesty and Ethics of Professions poll shows that for the first time, a majority — 55 percent — rate members of the U.S. House of Representatives low/very low for honesty and ethics. Senators come in slightly better at 49 percent.
A whopping 9 percent of the house and 11 percent of the Senate get high/very high ratings in honesty and ethics. Read the rest of this entry »
Zogby Poll: Almost No Obama Voters Ace Election Test
Posted by Ron Heuer, December 10, 2009
UTICA, New York — Just 2% of voters who supported Barack Obama on Election Day obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on a post election test which gauged their knowledge of statements and scandals associated with the presidential tickets during the campaign, a new Zogby International telephone poll shows.
Only 54% of Obama voters were able to answer at least half or more of the questions correctly. Read the rest of this entry »
GOP gubernatorial candidate Walker: Cut taxes, make jobs
Posted by Richard Mial, Tuesday, November 24, 2009
Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker said he has a job-related program that would cut taxes and reduce the size of government as a way to encourage economic development.
The Republican and Milwaukee County executive reduced his county staff through attrition and by contracting services, he told the Tribune editorial board Monday.
He would make several specific tax cuts if elected governor, he said, and look for ways to help manufacturing, agriculture and tourism, which he described as “the lifeblood of our state economy.” Read the rest of this entry »

Veterans Pay the Cost for Governor Doyle’s Policies
Posted by Rep Kevin Peterson, December 4, 2009
Recently, Wisconsin’s Department of Justice released their final investigative report into overexpenditures at the King Veterans Home. According to the report, no criminal violations occurred within King or the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA). However, it did cite communication concerns within the Department.
Partly based on those concerns, the Veterans Affairs Board fired Secretary Scocos and appointed then Assistant Secretary Ken Black as Department Secretary on November 24, 2009.
